Planting the seeds:

I put some seeds into a small container and set aside. I make some markers and label them with the type of seed and the date. Then, I fill the pots to the top with potting soil. It’s going to settle once it gets watered. I use an applicator I’ve made from card stock to pick one seed and place it in the middle of the pot. I then use a chop stick to push the seed down about a ¼ of an inch and cover with the soil. Put the marker in, and it’s ready for a light watering. If you have an open porch or some place where the pots can sit without the rain hitting them directly, it’s usually easier on the seedlings. They will start to pop up anywhere from about 3 days to over a week. It depends on conditions and the type of plant. Keep them lightly watered.

You will want to let the seedlings develop until they have a few leaves and are a couple of inches tall. They should be ready for transplanting then.
